Counting down to Bermuda's 2025 Youth Climate Summit!

Jevanic Henry

UN SG Youth Climate Advisor

Jevanic has been involved in climate change advocacy and activism for almost a decade. The passage of the 2013 Christmas Eve Tropical Trough, which caused significant damage to his home island, Saint Lucia, inspired his interest in the climate space. The storm resulted in extreme rainfall, leading to rapid and intense flash flooding and numerous landslides, and caused severe damage to transport, water supply, and drainage infrastructures as well as significant damage and loss in the agriculture, tourism, and housing sectors.

His gateway to the space was through the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) where he has been involved in various initiatives such as the ‘1.5 to Stay Alive’ campaign in the run up to COP21, international coastal cleanup activities, climate education initiatives with children in Saint Lucia and the Eastern Caribbean, and leading projects in Saint Lucia such as designing and securing funding for community-based resilience projects in water, health and infrastructure.

In March 2023, Jevanic was appointed as the first Caribbean representative to the UN Secretary-General’s Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change, tasked with providing concrete recommendation for accelerating implementation of the SG’s climate action agenda. Currently an Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) Fellow assigned to the Permanent Mission of Saint Lucia to the United Nations in New York, Jevanic continues to advocate for increased funding and technical support to advance the resiliency of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
