The Connection between YCS and Eco-Schools: Middle Schools
The Youth Climate Summit gives local students the opportunity to be a part of climate action in Bermuda outside of school, whilst Eco-Schools Bermuda helps students form eco-clubs to make sustainable change within their schools.
During the weeklong Youth Climate Summit launch event in the end of November, students aged 13-22 heard from international and local climate activists and worked together to brainstorm ways to implement climate action in Bermuda. Following this event, high school and college students aged 14-22 will continue their work within the Youth Climate Summit to develop and implement year-long initiatives for their track.
The 13 year old M3 students will go back to their middle schools and share what they have learned with the rest of their school peers. These students will work within their school’s Eco-Clubs and take the ideas brainstormed at the Youth Climate Summit to enact change through the Eco-Schools Programme. This is a great chance to put M3 students in leadership positions and inspire the M1 and M2 students to aim high.
From getting sustainable foods in school cafeterias to generating solar power for the school’s classrooms, the Eco-Schools Programme has the framework and local expert to help!
